The Bumdra Trek offers a perfect blend of easy trekking around Paro with guided tours of Paro and Thimphu cities. It is the shortest trek available in Bhutan, commencing and concluding in Paro. Starting from the north of the valley and concluding at the northwest, the trek culminates at the revered Taktsang Monastery, famously known as the ‘Tiger’s Nest’, one of Bhutan’s holiest sites.
Despite the challenging ascent on the first day, trekkers are rewarded with breathtaking views of the valley and snow-capped mountains. The second day involves mostly descending, making it comparatively easier.
The journey commences with a bird’s eye view of the majestic mountain range during the flight to Paro. Spend the day exploring the vibrant city of Paro, visiting Ta Dzong and Paro Rinpung Dzong before driving to Thimphu. Enjoy a day of sightseeing in Thimphu before returning to Paro.
On the third day, embark on the trek, starting with a scenic ridge hike around Bumdra before reaching the Taktsang Monastery. Conclude the trek with a drive back to Paro.

Upon arrival in Paro, enjoy the scenic flight over the world’s highest mountain series. After clearing customs, meet our representatives and transfer to Paro town for lunch. Begin the guided city tour with visits to Ta Dzong and Paro Rinpung Dzong. Later, drive to Thimphu, the modern capital of Bhutan, known for its unique charm without traffic lights. Check into the hotel and explore the town in the evening. Overnight at Hotel. (Lunch/Dinner included)
After breakfast, embark on a sightseeing tour of Thimphu. Visit the National Memorial Chorten, Institute of Traditional Medicine, Folk Heritage Museum, Textile Museum, Buddha’s Point, Motitang Zoo, and the Weekly Outdoor Market. Afterward, drive back to Paro. Overnight at Hotel. (Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner included)
After breakfast, drive to Sangchen Chokhor, the starting point of the trek. Begin the trek by climbing steadily through forests of Himalayan blue pine, oak, and rhododendron. Pass by the Chochong-Tse temple and meditation cave, then proceed along the ridgeline trail, enjoying panoramic views of the valleys and peaks. Reach the campsite offering stunning Himalayan vistas. After breakfast, embark on a ridge hike in Bumdra. Choose between an easier hike to a small summit at 4,200 meters or a more challenging hike to a summit at 4,600 meters. Enjoy spectacular views of the surrounding landscape. Return to camp for overnight stay. (Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner included)
Visit Bumdra Gompa in the morning, a small monastery nestled on a cliff face. Begin the hike back to Paro, descending through changing landscapes. Pass by the iconic Taktsang Monastery, perched on a cliff. Overnight at Hotel. (Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner included)
After breakfast, transfer to the airport for onward flight. Bid farewell to the legendary Dragon Kingdom. (Breakfast only included)
The new SDF of US$100 per person per day will become effective from 1 September 2023.
The new SDF shall remain effective for four years until 31 August 2027.
Any guest who already paid the SDF for their upcoming visit to Bhutan is eligible for a refund of the excess SDF amounts paid.
When applying for a visa to enter Bhutan, you will need to pay the SDF. Visas can be applied for at the Department of Tourism’s website.
No, the incentives introduced in June 2023 have been revoked and are no longer applicable. However, the 24-hour SDF waiver for border towns in Bhutan remains valid.
